For outdoor installation, the rule that applies to the open ends of the PLEXIGLAS® multi-skin sheets is: As tight as necessary at the bottom, and as tight as possible at the top! This means that the open ends at the bottom of the sheets must be protected as far as possible from the infiltration of dirt, water and insects, but that the cavities must be ventilated and that condensation must be allowed to run off or evaporate. If the ends of the sheets are not clamped in suitable profile systems, an end closure section must be clipped on. The top ends of the sheets thus have to be sealed against the entry of dirt and water, and air flow is to be avoided. This is done by covering the top ends with adhesive aluminum tape.

What is the center-to-center spacing to be observed for PLEXIGLAS® multi-skin sheets?

nach oben

The glazing bars at the longitudinal edges of multi-skin sheets must be able to accommodate the width tolerances of the sheets inherent in their manufacture and the sheet expansion due to heat and humidity.

The center-to-center spacing therefore depends on the sheet width, but especially on the glazing bars used.
Typical center-to-center spacings are for example:
Center-to-center spacing = Sheet width + 25 or 30 millimeters (mm)

The center-to-center spacing may be different  for glazing bars offered by PLEXIGLAS® distributors. It is therefore necessary to obtain information about these from the relevant supplier.

Can PLEXIGLAS® multi-skin sheets be walked over?

nach oben

The safety regulations for non-loadbearing roofing apply to PLEXIGLAS® multi-skin sheets. To avoid any damage to the outer skin of the sheets and to avoid spot-wise loads, the sheets can only be walked over using thick planks.
