Skylight and Barrel Vault
Large skylights and barrel vaults enable the use of natural sunlight to illuminate shopping malls, sports halls and swimming baths, factory units and industrial buildings. The light transmission of the glazing material is of paramount importance. PLEXIGLAS® multi-skin sheets offer unparalleled light transmission, which is not diminished even by decades of use. PLEXIGLAS HEATSTOP® multi-skin sheets make it possible to combine high light transmission with pleasantly cool temperatures. In 8 and 16mm thickness, this sheet grade shows a light transmission of 62 and 50 percent respectively. Heat-shielding particles embedded in the material protect the glazed spaces from uncomfortable heat buildup.
Material savings and aesthetic constructions
Barrel vaults made from PLEXIGLAS® multi-skin sheets are easy to form using HEATSTOP and RESIST grades in 8 and 16mm thickness. The sheets can be cold-curved up to a radius of 150 times the sheet thickness.
This means you can also bend sheets with small radii, providing vaults with a high pitch. What is more, the new PLEXIGLAS® multi-skin sheets are stiffer and have a greater load-bearing capacity than polycarbonate multi-skin sheets even at low pitches, i.e. with a larger bending radius.
The advantages of high-pitched structures are obvious - they allow less obtrusive, more aesthetic light domes. Above all, they enable savings in construction costs, because far less sheet material and fewer loadbearing hoops are required to cover the same roof openings.
Cost savings for the supporting structure too
The cost of the supporting structure is also reduced, because 16mm PLEXIGLAS HEATSTOP® and PLEXIGLAS RESIST® double-skin sheets can be installed without any purlins.
With 8mm thick material, purlins can be spaced at 2.70 m. These large spacings again make for lower material and manufacturing costs.
Sheets are available in widths of 980 mm and 1,200 mm in various lengths.
